Almost a week has passed since the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) parted ways from the collation government of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), but there have been no contacts between two ‘best friends’ of the past.
On June 27, the MQM Coordination Committee had announced the party’s separation from the federal as well as the provincial governments. Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad had also reportedly resigned from his office.
The love affair between the two parties had set a precedent of MQM’s annoyance and PPP’s pursuance of bringing the party to the fold. But this time, the PPP is keeping a distance and has not gone to the MQM to ask them to return to the alliance. It is for the first time during the past three years that the PPP is keeping the distance.
On Saturday, Dr Sagheer Ahmed, an important leader of the MQM, denied of any contacts between PPP and MQM.
“There have been contacts between PPP and MQM,” said the provincial health minister, while talking to the media in the Sindh Assembly building. He had arrived with a delegation of MQM assembly members to re-submit an application of sitting on opposition benches.
Meanwhile, the issue of resignation of Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad also stands unresolved. Reports are circulating that he is on leave for a week.
Sources inside the Governor’s House said that acting governor Nisar Ahmed Khuhro is also unsure about the resignation of Ebad. QAZI ASIF

  1. This article has been published two days ago which means Saturday 2nd July.
    Today is 4th July.
There are no reports that PPP has contacted MQM. President Zardari is in London. He was due to fly back home on Saturday 2nd July but he has extended his stay. Today is Monday and as yet there are no reports of contacts between two estranged bedfellows.
MQM would want Asif Zardari to go and visit shrine of living 'Jalali' Pir in Edgware Road London in razmatazz of media. There are still 24 hours to go and I shall not be surprised if President capitulates before Altaf Hussain and the whole bunch of MQM ministers back to their ministries. President Zaradari would have no qualms about that.
