Pakistan Railways (PR) on Saturday shut down 5 train crossings in Wahga, Crescent and Dharampura areas of provincial capital after Punjab Highways Department failed pay Rs 11.3 million it owed to PR. The closure of crossings at busy city thoroughfares caused problems for riders and pedestrians alike and it resulted in acute traffic mess. The PR’s move enhanced traffic lead at Dharam Pura Underpass that resulted in bottleneck that lasted for several hours. The tug-of-war between the two departments has been continuing since 2009 when Punjab Highway Department suspended payment to Pakistan Railways meant for salaries of staff deployed on different train crossings and repairs etc.
It may be mentioned that a number of banners had been displayed by Pakistan Railways for last several days warning that the crossings would be closed owing to non-payment of salaries to staffers by highway department. The citizens have demanded of the Punjab chief minister and railway minister to take note of the situation and resolve the issue. Meanwhile, three Grade-20 officers of Pakistan Railways were transferred on Saturday. M Junaid Qureshi has been made managing director of Pakistan Railways Advisory and Consultancy Service (PRACS), Imtiaz Rizvi is new PR Chief Marketing Manager and Sardar Sheikh is now PRACS executive director passengers.

  1. I would like to add that anyone taking an pledge for the govt, such as bureaucratic roles, are study a loyal pledge to repeat that finishes in "so help me God." I suppose the state stage and local stage govt authorities do the same. It has always really upset me that my capability to maintain my nation's guidelines are reliant on heavenly windfall.
