Citing to a terrorist threat in the city, Lahore Police launched a search operation against criminals during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Ghulam Mehmood Dogar said on Friday.
He was holding a press conference at the Allama Iqbal Town superintendent of police (SP) office. During the crackdown, police arrested 36 proclaimed offenders, including two top criminals, 47 court absconders (CA) and 15 target offenders. According to details, police arrested eight proclaimed offenders from the City Division, four from the Cantt Division, 10 from the Civil Lines Division, two from the Saddar Division, four from the Allama Iqbal Town Division and six from the Model Town Division.
City Division police arrested four court absconders, Cantt Division arrested three, Civil Lines Division arrested 17, Saddar Division arrested six, Allama Iqbal Town Division arrested three and Model Town Division arrested eight CAs. City Division Police arrested two target offenders while seven were arrested from Civil Lines Division and six from Allama Iqbal Town. Police also registered 41 cases of illicit weapons and recovered eight rifles, 22 pistols, 16 mousers, one carbine and 936 bullets from the custody of criminals. Around 49 cases were registered against drugs peddlers while police recovered 11 kilogrammes hashish, one kilogramme heroine and 613 bottles of liquor.
Lahore Police also registered 38 cases against 93 arrested gamblers and recovered Rs 0.3 million stake money, 22 motorcycles and six cars from the custody of criminals. Allama Iqbal Town Police arrested 18 criminals of six dacoit gangs and recovered money from their custody.
