White Lies

Well, the life of Imran Khan always was the stuff movies are made out of.

Sports movies, the bit about the cricket; inspirational movies, the bit about the cancer hospital and disaster movies, the bit about his politics.

It appears that some Britons of Pakistani descent are making a movie on his life, titled, unimaginatively, “Kaptaan.”

Booh.

The title could have been;

Minister, know thy place. And that includes you, first among equals.

It turns out the premier, in a meeting, complained to the information minister about a certain number of anchors of the state broadcaster. We inducted them, he complained, yet they go on against the government on their respective shows.

About a certain number of anchors, the information minister said she’ll take remedial action. About the others, she won’t be able to do anything.

“Why?” asked her boss. Because they’re the names that were proposed from within the presidency, she replied.

The prime minister, wily political player, knowing better than not to fly too close to the sun, moved on to the meeting’s next item of business.

The Punjab chief minister was at a local hotel recently, to celebrate the Queen’s birthday at a bash thrown by the British high commission. Well, this is the Commonwealth, isn’t it? She is our Queen, isn’t she?

He was also conspicuous by his absence at the anniversary of the American war of independence which was celebrated recently by the US consulate. Shehryar Taseer, son of the slain Punjab governor, was the chief guest instead.
