The Supreme Court on Thursday directed a private land developer, Green Tree (Pvt) Ltd, to submit a concise statement in a scam involving Rs 1.56 billion in its deal with the Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation by July 11.
A three-member SC bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, was hearing a suo motu case involving billions of rupees corruption in purchase of land for the Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation. During the hearing, Housing and Works Minister Faisal Saleh Hayat told the court that he had no personal grudge against Green Trees (Pvt) Ltd, but it had carried out a lot of irregularities during the finalisation of the deal of 3,000 kanals of land with the Housing Foundation.
The Green Tree Project’s counsel, Raja Muhammad Irshad contended that the dispute might be referred to former chief justice Saeeduzzaman Siddiqui for probing the case. On this, the CJ remarked that the name of Justice (r) Ejaz Ahmed Chaudhry had already been given so they should give respect to him. Later, the court adjourned the hearing until July 11.
