The Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) has lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at the Defence police station against six members of KESC’s labour union on charges of attempted murder.
The six union members had attacked the director and Safety deputy general manager (DGM) as well as three other KESC employees on Wednesday evening as they were leaving the utility’s head offices. These five people were injured and three vehicles damaged in the attack.
Neither did the personnel of law enforcement agencies present on the scene take any action to pre-empt the attack, nor did they apprehend the attackers.
The FIR lodged through Security General Manager Col Amir stated that a group of union members – led by Labour Union General Secretary Azizur Rehman Pathan and comprising Babar, Raj Meer, Aijaz Chachi, Shaukat Sumbal and Farooq – attacked the cars of Director Aamir Zafar, Safety DGM Ali Raza and Shoaib Naqvi with sticks, stones and batons.
Zafar, Raza, Rehan, Abdul Samad and Wazir were injured in the attack and moved to separate hospitals for first-aid, following which they were shifted to the Aga Khan University Hospital. Their medico-legal report was registered at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
The condition of Raza is reported to be serious because he has suffered grave wounds on his head and chest, whereas Rehan’s head has been fractured. Samad received serious wounds on his face, whereas Zafar and Wazir suffered minor injuries.
