The Lahore High Court on Thursday directed Ministry of Foreign Affairs to submit reply in a petition filed by Jamatud Dawa leader Hafiz Muhammad Saeed seeking government’s help in defending him in a US court hearing the Mumbai attacks case. Hafiz Saeed moved the LHC after a US court issued summons to Hafiz Saeed, ISI chief and other officials on a law suit filed by relatives of US nationals killed in Mumbai attacks. Saeed is demanding that the government should defend him since he is a Pakistani citizen. On the last hearing, Justice Umar Ata Bandial had sought reply from the federal government which was not submitted and instead Deputy Attorney General Nasim Kashmiri told the court that government could not provide legal assistance to civilians (in individual capacity) in the US courts.
