Former law minister Babar Awan on Thursday declared the Sharif brothers “Relief Brothers”, saying their politics was surviving on “judicial relief” for the last 30 years, however, they had still been unable to “digest the uninterrupted relief” given to them by the judiciary through stay orders. Talking to reporters, Awan said the PML-N leadership should respect the mandate of the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and accept their defeat.
Awan said the PPP had earned a heavy mandate almost in all elections of AJK, adding that it would continue serving the people of the valley. Explaining the reason of calling the PML-N leaders ‘Relief Brothers’, he said they had the habit of taking every matter to the court. He suggested to the Sharif brothers to resolve political issues by themselves and avoid taking every matter to the courts. He said the PPP would sweep the next general elections in the country as well in Punjab.
Dispelling the impression that the PPP was hindering implementation of the 18th Amendment, Awan said how could the PPP deny implementing the 18th Amendment which it had approved itself. He said the PPP believed in provincial autonomy and it had transferred powers to the provinces, adding that the party was celebrating Provincial Empowerment Day on July 1. He categorically said the government was not falling and would complete its constitutional tenure. Awan made it clear to the parties dreaming for a grand opposition alliance that the PML-N and the MQM could not sit together because the Sharif brothers had deceived all parties, including the Jamaat-e-Islami, the MQM, the IJI and the Junejo League four times.
