Speaker Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) Assembly Karamatullah Khan on Wednesday lauded the efforts of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) in alleviating poverty from the country. The speaker, who was the chief guest at the ceremony held by BISP officials, distributed cheques amongst 17 Waseela-e-Haq beneficiaries, mobile phones amongst 100 beneficiaries and monthly financial assistance amongst 50 beneficiaries. He also launched BISP’s mobile phone banking services. Speaking at the occasion, Khan said that the BISP was the practical manifestation of the dreams of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. He said that direct financial assistance to beneficiary families would help mitigate their sufferings. “This programme is different from others because it is entirely apolitical,” he said. Ms. Sajida Tabbasam, Ms. Naeema Nisar and other dignitaries from Hazara Division also attended the ceremony.
