Hundreds of shopkeepers along the Iqbal Road held protest demonstrations on Sunday against the inefficiency of law enforcers in preventing robberies.
The protesters blocked the main road by creating hurdles and burnt tyres to register their protest against a robbery at a sanitary shop in Revachand Garden in broad daylight.
Reportedly, two unidentified armed men riding on a motorcycle had robbed the owner of Universal Sanitary Store Mohammad Umer off thousands of rupees on gunpoint. The bandits fled away despite police personnel present near the site of the incident. Some shopkeepers tried to follow the culprits but failed.
In a subsequent reaction, hundreds of traders, led by Iqbal Road union office bearers, Dost Mohammad, Naved Mughal and Aftab Qureshi, blocked the road, resulting in a massive traffic jam.
The protesters also chanted slogans against the district administration.
Later, Satellite Town SPO Kanwar Singh and SHO Zulfiqar Qaimkhani reached the spot and negotiated with the protesters, assuring them of the case’s registration and arresting the culprits soon. The protesters dispersed peacefully and traffic was restored after one and half hour.
