Rind, son get life term

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Quetta on Tuesday awarded life sentence to Balochistan Assembly member Sardar Yar Muhammad Rind, his son and their five accomplices who were co-accused in a kidnapping for ransom case.
Rind, who is the lone opposition lawmaker in the provincial assembly, his son Sardar Khan and others were facing the charges of kidnapping Imam-ud-Din in 2009. A fine Rs 50,000 is also part of the sentence. The court issued several summons to the accused but they did not appear before the court after which the judge announced the ex-party judgment.
Yar Muhammad, who is the chief of the influential Rind tribe, and others have received an additional life term and Rs 50,000 fine for not replying to the court orders. However, none of the accused has so far been arrested after the verdict.
