Lahore Police ordered to hunt down crime bosses: CCPO

Lahore Police have been directed to take stern action against crimes bosses instead of going after only small criminals, Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ahmed Raza Tahir said on Tuesday.
He issued these orders while talking to citizens belonging to various walks of life at his office. Tahir said that elimination of crime and provision of sense of protection to the masses is a top priority and all officers of Lahore Police have been directed to take maximum possible steps to achieve the same.
The CCPO said that he had ordered Lahore Police to keep a watchful eye on all suspicious elements, along with ensuring effective surveillance at all entry and exit points of the city.
He assured citizens that no stone will be left unturned to root out crime from the city and provide protection to the life and property of people. Tahir informed citizens that six reporting centers are being set up throughout the city, where citizens could get their FIRs registered without any inconvenience. The CCPO said that additional force in plain clothes have been deployed at all important points of the city, including rush areas, banks and hotels with an aim of effectively eliminating any possible terrorist attack and other crimes.
He said that as there is a complete ban on kite flying by the government in the city, all SHOs have been directed to take indiscriminate action against those people who flout the law and use forbidden kite string in order to ensure protection of innocent lives. Tahir heard various problems of citizens and issued on spot instructions.
In light of various complaints received by him, the CCPO ordered that the process of sending challans to courts should be expedited, besides ensuring merit-orientated investigation of cases. He warned that any policemen, displaying inefficiency or indulging in corruption, would be taken to task.
10-member board constituted to stop fake police encounters: In order to stop fake police encounters and ensure regular monitoring and vigilance, a 10-member special board was constituted on Tuesday by Punjab Police Inspector General Javed Iqbal. The board and inspection and vigilance cell, which was established in 10 regions of Punjab will be headed by Deputy Inspector General Major (r) Mubasharullah.
According to details, following members of the inspection and vigilance cell of each region will be responsible to monitor fake police encounters. In case of transfer of any member, the successor will be part of the board. Usama Mumtaz, SSP/Investigation, Branch Punjab, Capital City Lahore Region, Muhammad Kashif SP/Principal PTS Farooqabad, Sheikhupura Region, Munir Masood Marth, SP/PHP Gujranwala, Dr Muhammad Azam, Rawalpindi chief traffic officer (CTO), Kamran Yousaf Malik, SSP/PHP Faisalabad, Ghazi Salahuddin, SSP/PTS Sargodha, Younas Butt, SP/RIB Sahiwal, Maqsood Ahmad Khichi, SSP/Principal PTS Multan, Gohar Mushtaq Bhutta, SP/Investigation Muzzaffargargh, DG Khan Region and Shaukat Murtaza Malhi, SP/PHP Bahawalpur.
According to a notification issued by Punjab Investigation Additional Inspector General Azam Joiya, any aggrieved family or legal heirs of people killed in allegedly fake encounters could approach and submit a written application to the regional I&V Cell/members of the special board, who will forward the same to head of the board. Subsequently, the later will nominate a panel of inquiry officers.
This panel will furnish its reports/findings to head of the board, who will in turn forward the same with his comments to the IGP through DIG/Inspection & Vigilance, Police Headquarters Punjab. In light of this inquiry report, the IGP will issue disciplinary and legal orders against those policemen who will be found guilty.
