As many as eight Naval personnel have been taken into custody under the charges of abetting terrorists during attack on PNS Mehran naval base and court martial proceedings can be initiated against them after completion of investigation.
It was disclosed on Wednesday in the meeting of National Assembly standing committee on defence by senior officers probing into Naval base incident.
A senior member of committee said that three officers, one sailor and 4 other Naval personnel allegedly assisted the terrorists in the attack. They remained in contact with the militants and they were having fundamentalist inclinations, he added.
Naval authorities had reached this conclusion that it was impossible to carry out attack without the help of insider. The terrorists spent several days in evolving planning of the attack. They stayed for three to four days in the locality close to Naval base.
