5 people killed in roof collapses

At least five persons were killed and more than two dozens received multiple injuries in different incidents of roof-collapse, following heavy rain in different areas of provincial metropolis on Wednesday. In the first incident, at least four men died while 11 others sustained serious injuries when roof of a mini-bus stand caved in owing to heavy rain near Saeed Chowk in Ferozwala Area. The deceased were identified as Muhammad Shabbir, Muhammad Akram, Ismail and Bashir Ahmad while the injured were identified as Shaukat, Masood, Hussain, Akram, Mumtaz, Mahmood Hussain, M Akram, Muhammad Ali, Saddiq, Saleem, Shahid Iqbal, Ajmal.
Rescue officials said the aforesaid men were drivers and conductors of mini-buses and were sleeping in the bus stand’s building when roof of the building came down due to heavy rain. As a result the men were buried under its debris. Locals informed rescue officials, who after reaching the scene brought them out of the debris and rushed them to the Mayo Hospital for medical aid where four men succumbed to their injuries with the others still critical.
In a similarly incident in Manawan Police Area, the roof of a house collapsed and killed Muhammad Saleen, 46. Rescue officials said Sooter Mill Area resident Muhammad Saleem was sleeping in his house when roof of his caved in. As a result he was buried under its debris. Rescue officials after reaching the scene brought him out but he was already dead.
Meanwhile the dilapidated roof of a house in Factory Area Police jurisdiction collapsed and injured six persons of a family in Islam Nagar on Walton Road. Due to the mishap six members of a family including Dawar, Hamza, Huzaifa, Ayisha, Farah and Shafqat were buried under the debris. Locals of the area rushed to the site and removed them from debris. Rescue teams shifted them to a nearby hospital.
In another incident, near Gajumatta Stop in Kahna Area, four people including three children were injured when roof of their house collapsed. Edhi’s rescue workers rushed to the scene and shifted the injured people to a near by hospital. The injured were identified as Sajjad Bashir, 4, Rimsha Bashir, 7, Aqsa Bashir, 5, and their mother.
