After the US, the government has asked the United Kingdom to pull out some of its military trainers, who were here to train the Frontier Corps in counterterrorism. The British-based Bureau of Investigative Journalism quoted the British Defence Ministry as confirming the withdrawal of at least 18 military advisers who were helping train the poorly equipped Frontier Corps in counterterrorism. The Guardian and other media organisations, however, described the move on part of the Pakistan government as the latest sign of its strained relations with the West after last month’s killing of Osama bin Laden by US troops in Abbottabad. The British embassy also confirmed Pakistan’s demand for the withdrawal of some British military trainers but it tried to tone down the issue saying the decision was made by Islamabad because of some security concerns.
