NA body on minorities opposes devolution

National Assembly Standing Committee on Minority Affairs on Monday passed a resolution asking Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to review the decision to devolve the ministry to the provinces or create a new ministry for the affairs of the non-Muslims.
National Assembly Standing Committee on Minority Affairs that met with Dr Mahesh Kumar Malani in the chair had updates regarding investigation into the assassination of former minority affairs minister Shahbaz Bhatti. The committee was told that the joint investigation team despite the lapse of four months could not trace the killers of Shahbaz Bhatti.
Senior Superintendent of Police Tahir Alam Khan said Gulsher, the driver of Shahbaz Bhatti, was still under investigation and the joint investigation team had also probed the personal staff of the office of the deceased minister regarding his visitors. The SSP added the team had interrogated many people, including Mumtaz Qadri who had killed former Punjab Governor Salman Taseer, but no clue had been found. The members of the committee expressed concern over the poor progress of the case. Minister for Minority Affairs Akram Masih Gill assured the committee of taking up the issue of the poor investigation with Prime Minister Gillani.
