Ending load shedding before 2018 next to impossible: Wapda

Wapda has told National Assembly (NA) standing committee on water and power that ending load shedding before 2018 is next to impossible.
Committee met here under its chairman Ghulam Mustafa Shah Tuesday in parliament house.
PPP legislator Syed Sajjad ul Hassan threatened all Wapda and PEPCO offices in Okara would be torched if load shedding would continue adding he would lead such demonstrations.
Chairman Wapda Shakil Durrani while giving briefing to the committee told a test study would be conducted before generating electricity from Bhasha dam. Gilgit, Baltistan has potential to generate electricity from 60000 megawatt to 100000 megawatt. We are endeavouring to bring hydropower production at the level of 50 percent, he stated.
Muzaffargarh, Jamshoro and Guddo power plants were being upgraded, he pointed out. Mangla dam capacity would be increased by 15 percent due to its raising and upgrading, he added. Neelum-Jhelum tunnel had been completed till 16 kilometres, he said.
