Woman killed by brother-in-law over domestic issue

A 40-year-old woman was killed by her brother-in-law and his son over a domestic issue in the Burki Police Station precincts on Sunday. The victim was identified as Safiya, a resident of Phularwan, Burki. Police said that accused Liaqat Ali, the victim’s brother-in-law and his son Waqas alias Sunny had exchanged hot words with her over a domestic issue two days ago. On Sunday, Liaqat and his son approached Safiya and shot and wounded her. She was rushed to a nearby hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. Accused Liaqat and Waqas managed to flee. Burki Police, after being informed, reached the spot and shifted the body to the city morgue. Police have registered a case against Liaqat and his son Waqas on complaint of the deceased’s husband Muhammad Amanat.
Separately, two women committed suicide over minor issues in two different areas of the city. A 1st year student committed suicide by shooting herself in the Batapur Police Station precincts. The deceased was identified as Ayesha, daughter of Muhammad Hussain of Jallo Morr. Police said that the girl was dejected, as she could not continue her education due to her father’s financial woes. On Sunday, Ayesha shot herself with a gun. Police handed over the body to her family after legal formalities.
A 30-year-old woman committed suicide over a domestic issue near Punjab Society in the Factory Area Police Station precincts. The deceased was identified as Saima Bibi, a resident of Punjab Society F-Block. Saima had married Sameer Shaukat a few years ago. The couple used to quarrel with each other on petty issues. On Sunday, Saima locked herself in a room and hanged her with a rope. Police, after being informed, rushed to the spot and removed the body to the city morgue for autopsy. No case was registered until filing of this report.
Valuables worth thousands of rupees were reduced to ashes when fire broke out due to short circuit in a catering shop near Bilal Ganj. Fire fighters rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire after hectic efforts.
A 35-year-old man sustained burn injuries after receiving severe electric shocks near Salamatpura. Victim Allah Rakha, a resident of Kachupura, was a sanitary worker. He was working in a house near Salamatpura when he received electric shocks. Rakha was rushed to a nearby hospital where his condition was reported to be critical.
Three people were seriously injured in road accidents in different parts of the provincial metropolis.
In the first incident, two motorcycles collided with each other near Amir Road, Shadbagh. As a result, Alam, 20, was seriously injured and rushed to a nearby hospital by Edhi Ambulance Service.
In the second incident, two people were injured when a car hit their motorcycle near Centre Point, Liberty. Tariq, 38, and Irfan, 55, were seriously injured and shifted to a nearby hospital where their condition is reported to be stable.
Model Town Police launched a search operation in different areas to hunt suspected people. Garden Town Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Memona Tahir said that the search operation was launched against suspicious people in Model Town N-Block flats. During the search operation, police checked identity cards of several suspicious people but no one was arrested.
