A talk on Arab revolution supposed to be held at the South Asian Free Media Association (SAFMA) office on Sunday was cancelled because of a threat of suicide bombing at the venue. SAFMA Director Imran Riaz said police officials asked him to cancel the event citing a threat since the talk was expected to target the rising extremism.
“The talk was about the recent Arab revolution but misperceived as an anti-extremism activity because of its title ‘Extremism and Dictators’, that is why the police asked us not to conduct it,” the director said. Khudi, the organisation which was conducting the talk, condemned the decision saying if there was a threat, it was the police’s duty to provide security.
Model Town Police superintendent who had issued the threat warning letter evaded comments on the matter.
