MQM decides to sever ties with PPP-led government

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) again Monday decided to move away from federal government led by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).
MQM recently came at loggerheads with PPP after Azad Kashmir polls were postponed on two seats in Karachi on security reasons.
MQM’s Rabta Committee held its simultaneous meetings in London and Karachi and discussed issues relating Azad Kashmir elections.
The Coordination Committee’s meeting that last several hours decided to part ways with the federal government.
In a protest against the postponement of elections on two seats in Karachi, MQM leaders Saleem Butt and Tahir Khokhar filed petitions at Sindh High Court against federal government, Sindh government and IGP.
The petitioners Saleem Butt and Tahir Khokhar requested the high court for immediate polling on two seats of Kashmiri immigrants’ in Karachi and that recent AJK elections should be declared null and void.
Former Advocate General Barrister Dr. Farogh Naseem appeared on behalf of the MQM before the court and filed the petition.
After filing petition, Farogh Naseem said the SHC has power to declare Election Commission’s orders, regarding postponement of vote on few seats of Azad Kashmir, as null and void.
Earlier Talking to media, MQM’s central leader Hyder Abbas Rizvi said Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) was forcing his party to quit one seat in Karachi; but he made it clear that no pressure would be tolerated for the purpose.
He added, “All parties reserve right to compete in elections in a democratic set up and this is why, we demand immediate polling on delayed seats.”
