Lahore Police intensifies action against criminals

Chief City Police Officer (CCPO) Ahmad Raza Tahir on Sunday ordered intensification of the ongoing campaign against proclaimed offenders (POs). In a high level meeting, the CCPO directed the police force to take comprehensive steps against influential people who provided protection to POs. He also ordered priority-based action against drug peddling and other serious crimes in the city.
The police apprised the CCPO that during May and June Lahore Police exterminated 120 criminal gangs and arrested 374 criminals. 627 cases were traced against the arrested criminals including one case of murder, one case of kidnapping for ransom, four cases of robbery cum murder, 232 cases of robbery, 280 cases of theft and burglary and 109 miscellaneous cases. The police also seized stolen property worth Rs 51 million which included Rs 2.964 m in cash, 32 cars, 101 motorcycles, 272 mobile phones, over129 tola gold ornaments, two pick-ups, 5 Suzuki Bolans, one rikshaw, one Mazda truck and other valuables.
The police also arrested over 5,700 proclaimed offenders and court absconders. Among them, the 3,419 arrested proclaimed offenders were wanted in 117 cases of murder, 80 cases of attempt for murder, 422 cases of robbery, 385 cases of theft and 2,415 other cases. The Lahore Police had registered 796 cases and arrested 798 perpetrators during a campaign against illegal weapons. The officials seized eight Kalashnikovs, 49 rifles, 300 guns, 824 pistols, 79 revolvers, 10 carbines, one mouser, 12 daggers, 165 magazines and more than 86,500 bullets. In action against drug sellers, 1661 culprits were arrested and the police seized 33 kg of heroin, 209 kg of charas, one kg of opium, 78 kg of hashish, 110 intoxicating pills, 219 injections and 17,287 bottles of liquor. Moreover, the police arrested 1,098 gamblers and seized a betting amount of Rs 1.624 m.
