The Eidgah police arrested two accused men after a brief encounter near the Civil Hospital Karachi on Friday, said a press release issued by the deputy inspector general’s office on Saturday. However, hospital sources have alleged that no encounter had taken place. According to Eidgah police, Fazal and Gul Muhammad had arrived at the Civil Hospital Karachi to take home their relatives Qasim and Kamran alias Ditta, who were arrested by the Kalri police on Thursday after an encounter.
Station House Officer (SHO) Raja Tanveer claimed that the police arrested Fazal and Gul Muhammad after an encounter near the hospital, but sources said that no encounter had taken place. A senior guard at the hospital told Pakistan Today that both Fazal and Gul Muhammad had arrived at the hospital to visit their injured relatives. He said that as the police arrived at the hospital to take Qasim and Kamran alias Ditta to the court, the law enforcers took Fazal and Gul Muhammad into custody as well. He also said that no encounter had taken place near the hospital, and that the police had arrested Fazal and Gul Muhammad within the premises of the hospital.
Fazal’s mother told this scribe that she was also present at the hospital, and that her younger son Qasim had been in police custody. She said that she went home from the hospital on Friday morning to cook a meal for her son, and that when she returned to the hospital around 1:00 pm, both her sons were gone. She also said that a police official had called her and asked her for a bribe for the release of her son Fazal. She demanded the authorities concerned to take the corrupt policemen to task. Several attempts were made to get the comments of SHO Raja Tanveer, but he did not answer his mobile phone.
