AJK elections – People’s Party likely to get lion’s share

After conclusion of the voting took place in 37 out of 41 electoral constituencies including 29 of Azad Kashmir and eight out of all 12 from Pakistan-based Kashmiri refugees, official and unofficial results show polling in favour of the Pakistan People’s Party with eight seats out of 12 results.
The (official and unofficial) results show that the PPP wins from eight seats, PML-N from 2, Muslim Conference from one, and two independents. Senior PPP leaders including former prime minister Barrister Sultan Mehmood, former speaker Chaudhry Abdul Majeed, former ministers Chaudhry Muhammad Yaseen and Khawaja Farooq Ahmad are among the winners. While Usman Attique, son of the prime minister, is among the looser.
The officials were still busy in counting the votes. Elections were postponed in three constituencies including LA-30 (Jammu-I) and LA-36 (Kashmir valley-I) due to worsening law and order situation in Karachi and in LA-41 (Kashmir valley-6) following challenging of voters list related to Khyber PakhtunKhawa in the court.
Similarly, polling in constituency of LA-37 (Kashmir valley) in Lahore was postponed following violent clash between the workers of PPP and PML-N at the beginning of polling on Sunday morning. The polling started at 08:00 am and continued till 05:00 pm without any pause in line with the schedule set by the Election Commission. A huge turnout of over three million registered voters in 37 out of a total 41 constituencies of legislature was reported.
Great enthusiasm was witnessed among the voters, both male and female, in the most sensitive constituencies of the district including LA-4 (Khari Mirpur), LA-2 (Chakswari) and LA-3 Mirpur city. A thumping majority of a total of 30,39,926 eligible registered voters moved to 4351 polling stations to exercise their right of vote to elect their representatives for the Legislative Assembly, the Election Commission said.
PM casts vote – Azad Kashmir Prime Minister Sardar Attique Ahmed casts his vote in the constituency LA-13 Ghaziabad, Dhirkot. The prime minister was not holding his Computerized National Identity Card while visiting the polling station to exercise his right of franchise. However, he was allowed to cast the vote on producing the number of his card.
Dewan alleges Shahbaz of rigging – PPP candidate for LA-37 (Valley 2) polls-2011 Ghulam Mohiyuddin Dewan has alleged that PML-N workers committed worst election rigging in his constituency at the behest of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. He said that the official machinery was involved in election rigging and some four ballot boxes had been filled prior to the start of polling in a polling station.
He said PML-N was afraid of the defeat of their candidate from what they claimed as their political throne – Lahore. He said that he had been elected four times from the constituency and PML-N leadership was sure of their defeat that is why they disrupted the peace of the polling stations and created law and order situation.
