The lengthening loadshedding hours of electricity from almost 12 to 18 hours have exhausted the patience of citizens resulting in agitation and stoning of cars and traffic lights in Rawalpindi and Peshawar.
The stony silence of Awami National Party (ANP) about remedial measures is deafening in as much as they still cling to their no for Kalabagh dam, which would have given not only surplus power to Pakistan but also 14 percent share of water from the dam by a right bank gravity canal to irrigate seven lac acres of virgin land in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) as per agreed share of Water Accord of 1991. The leaders are requested to have pity on their province especially and on other Pakistanis in general to agree to Kalabagh dam, which is a win-win situation for all the provinces.
The adamancy of ANP to oppose the dam is like shooting in one’s own foot, which must be avoided by removing political blinkers and thinking for the nation in a sympathetic manner.
