Jundullah men, Radio Mullah’s accomplice arrested

The Crime Investigation Department (CID) claimed to have arrested three militants of jihadi groups from separate parts of the city and recovered huge caches of weapons from their possession.
Addressing a press conference at the CID office on Friday, CID Superintendent of Police (SP) Chaudhry Aslam Khan said that a CID team had conducted two raids in separate parts of the city. SP Khan said that on a tip-off, a CID team conducted a raid in the vicinity of Hawkesbay, Mauripur Road and arrested Rizwan Ali and Muhammad Saleem alias Jihadi of the outlawed Jundullah group.
Police recovered two suicide jackets, 25 kilogrammes of explosives, a light machine gun, some trinitrotoluene blocks, three rifles, four repeaters, 30 metres of detonator wire, 10 detonators, 300 submachine gun rounds and four uniforms of the Sindh Police, SP Khan added. He said that Muhammad Saleem alias Jihadi is in charge of Jundullah’s fighting wing and was involved in attacking the Muharram processions.
“Saleem admitted his involvement in attacking the Ashura possessions in Paposh Nagar and Qasba Colony in 2009,” he added. Khan said that Ali and Saleem also admitted planting a bomb in the vehicle of renowned Shia scholar Talib Johri, but they failed to harm the scholar. The detainees also attacked a police party at the city courts in 2010 and aided their arrested accomplices accused of the Ashura blast in escaping from the court, Khan added.
He said that a CID team also conducted a raid in the vicinity of Valika Hospital, SITE Area and arrested Nazeer Ahmed alias Waqas who belongs to a Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) group led by Maulana Fazlullah, nicknamed Radio Mullah. Nazeer Ahmed alias Waqas was also a TTP commander in Swat, he added. Khan said that the police recovered weapons from the possession of the militant who had attacked several government and law enforcement agencies officials.
“He was also planning to attack sensitive government installations,” Khan added. It is pertinent to mention here that the provincial inspector general of police has announced cash reward and ‘best performance’ certificates for the police party that conducted the raids and arrested the militants.
