At least five militants belonging to the banned Lashkar-e-Islam were reportedly killed in a clash with volunteers of the Zakhakhel peace lashkar in Tirah valley of Khyber Agency on Friday.
Two volunteers of the peace lashkar, who were carrying drinking water to the fighters, were also killed in clash that occurred in Shin Qamabar area of Qamabarakhel, source told Pakistan Today.
They said armed men of the LI attacked peace lashkar in the wee hours of Friday, however, the lashkar volunteers retaliated and killed five of the attackers. The latest clashes between the militants and the peace lashkar have continued intermittently since the last three days, claiming the life of at least 15 people from both sides.
The sources said the members of the LI also torched the house of Mehmood, an important former commander of the militant group who has now joined the peace lashkar. However, Mehmood managed to escape unhurt.
People of the area are facing immense problems as security forces clamped a curfew in Qamabarkhel, the sources added.
