Japanese Ambassador Hiroshi Oe called on Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and others during his visit to Karachi.
According to a press release issued from the Japanese Consulate, Ambassador Oe has made efforts during his stay in the city to strengthen the relationship between Pakistan and Japan. He discussed bilateral and regional issues with the governor, the chief minister, Pakistan Japan Business Forum Chairman Abdul Kader Jaffer, and Trade Development Authority Pakistan Chief Executive Tariq Puri.
The ambassador would also meet with Atlas Honda Ltd Chief Executive Officer Saqib Shirazi, Federal Overseas Pakistanis Minister/Muttahida Qaumi Movement Deputy Convener Dr Farooq Sattar, and Hamdard Foundation President/Pakistan Japan Cultural Association Sindh President Mrs Sadia Rashid before leaving here. According to an official handout issued from the Chief Minister House, the chief minister apprised the ambassador about the present socioeconomic situation of the province.
He said that Pakistan has very good relations with the government and the people of Japan. He informed him about the political system of Pakistan as the parliamentary democratic system is working smoothly after enduring the dictatorial regime for a long time. The chief minister stressed upon the ambassador to extend assistance to Pakistan in the energy sector as there is acute shortage of power in the country.
He maintained that Sindh possesses huge resources of coal in Tharparkar and other districts of the province that are being used for power generation. The chief minister added that the coal of Tharparkar is one of the best coals of the world, and that some of the investors have arrived and some are yet to arrive in order to invest in generation of gas and power. The ambassador said that cooperation would be extended and confidence rebuilt between the two countries.
He also extended invitation to the chief minister to participate in a conference to be held in the city in connection with celebration of 60 years of friendship of Pakistan and Japan. The chief minister accepted the invitation.
