Adil Najam to join LUMS as third VC

Renowned educationist Dr Adil Najam will be taking charge as the third vice chancellor (VC) of LUMS from July 1.Dr Adil Najam is a leading authority on global public policy.
He holds the Frederick S Pardee Chair for Global Public Policy at Boston University where he also serves as the director of the Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future and is a tenured professor of International Relations, Geography and Environment. Earlier he served as a professor of Negotiations and Diplomacy (2002-2007) at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. He has also taught at the Massachusetts Institute for Technology (MIT) and the University of Massachusetts (UMass).
Najam received his PhD and two master’s degrees from the MIT and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Engineering and Technology (Lahore). He also completed a specialisation in international negotiation from the Programme on Negotiation at the Harvard Law School.
Najam was a leading authority for the third and fourth assessments of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), a project for which the IPCC was awarded the 2007 Nobel Prize along with Al Gore. In 2008 he was invited by the United Nations (UN) Secretary General to serve on the UN Committee on Development (CDP).
In 2010 he was awarded the Sitara-e-Imtiaz by the government of Pakistan. He also serves on the Advisory Board for the 2011 Human Development report of the UNDP. Najam has published over 100 scholarly papers and book chapters and has authored and edited numerous books. He is a past winner of the MIT’s Goodwin Medal for Effective Teaching, the Fletcher School Paddock Teaching Award, the Stein Roken Award of the International Political Sciences Association and the ARNOVA Emerging Scholar Award. Najam has also served on the editorial boards of various scholarly publications, including Global Development and Capabilities and The Encyclopedia of Earth.
