President Asif Ali Zardari, on the advice of Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and approval by the federal government, promulgated the Regulations “Action in Aid of Civil Powers – 2011” for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and the Provincially Administered Tribal Areas (PATA) on Thursday to carry out an operation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) against militants waging war against the state of Pakistan. A government official said that regulations would provide a legal framework for the armed forces that had been called upon by the government to conduct operations in KP against the militants.
