Pakistan Polo Team is in high spirit after qualifying for the final of the 2011 FIP Polo World Cup Play Offs Zone D against India. The national team consisting of the country’s finest players is participating in the qualifier being played in Malaysia, consists of Ahmed Ali Tiwana, Raja Temur Nadeem, Raja Samiullah and Saqib Khan Khakwani (team captain) while Bilal Haye Mehta is reserve player.
Talking to Pakistan Today, Mamdot said: “The team is in high spirit, training hard and their dedicated efforts secured them the top position in the points table.”
“So far the performance of the team has remained unbeaten which is evident from the following results,” he maintained. Pakistan beat Nigeria 15 ½ to 7, South Africa 12 ½ to 10 and Australia in the semi-finals 8 ½ to 8 to set a date with India in a dream final. Pakistan topped the table with 28 goals and 17 were score against them for a massive plus 11 goals difference while India were second with a 17.5 and 10 against them with a 7.5 plus tally derived from 5 ½ – 5 and 12-5 wins over Australia and Malaysia.
The final is expected to be an extremely thrilling and nail-biting affair between the two unbeaten sides. Pakistan Polo Association Chairman Maj Gen Sahibzada Isfandyar Pataudi has specially flown to Malaysia to support the national team. Raja Sami Ullah has displayed excellent horsemanship and field play and therefore the tournament committee has nominated him for
the prestigious award of the best player of the Championship.
