A new airline, Indus Air, is planning to commence its flying operations in November this year with a minimum of 3 aircraft, Pakistan Today has learnt. As per details, Indus Air has got a license from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to start its operations both on mandatory primary routes (Gwadar, Turbat, Sukkur etc.) and trunk routes (Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar), most probably by the end of this year.
Indus Air owner and Chief Executive Officer Abdul Wahab, while talking to Pakistan Today said that they are in talks with Boeing for buying 3 airplanes, which is a requirement for the license. “We are also in talks with AirBus in this regard, but due to the shortage faced by Airbus, we are still at the advance stage, and the commencement of operations might take around 6 to 8 months,’ he added. He further said that the organisation is in its initial planning stages, however, there is a vacuum for new airlines in the industry.
Similarly, aviation experts believe that at least two new airlines are an essential requirement due to ever increasing passenger traffic at the domestic front in the country. They are of the view that air travel is becoming a preferred mode of transportation due to the breakdown of railways and inadequate road transportation. Thus, this is a positive sign for the aviation industry of the country.
