An indecent haste was observed by the government in de-notifying Marvi Memon within 18 hours of her resignation from parliament.
Not only the National Assembly speaker approved her resignation, but the same was passed on to the chief election commissioner, who on the same evening de-notified Marvi, a government source told Pakistan Today on Thursday.
After being notified as an MNA, Tanzeela Amir Cheema of the PML-Q on Thursday took oath as MNA on women’s reserve seat. NA Speaker Fehmida Mirza administered the oath to the new member during the National Assembly session.
The haste is surprising when considered that the NA speaker has not acted on several complaints filed various political parties about indiscipline and defection by their MNAs. Such cases included the rebel PML-Q groups which include the likeminded and independent group, while Khawaja Khan Hoti’s case also falls under the same parameter.
Some cases also have been reported from the senate as well as provincial assemblies, including the issue of turncoats of the PML-Q in Punjab Assembly, but no case has been finalised as yet.
