Renowned Pakistani pop singer of the 70’s, Alamgir has been diagnosed with permanent renal failure and is in a financial mess. The artist, who is often hailed as the Elvis of the East, requires immediate kidney transplant as both of his kidneys are now dysfunctional.
Alamgir was diagnosed with failing kidneys in 2004. At that time his kidneys were operating at 50 percent of their capacity, however they kept deteriorating. Doctors have advised him to go through dialysis till he finds a donor.
For the dialysis to start he went through a surgery in October, at Lawrenceville Hospital, Lahore, where he was fitted with a dialysis catheter.
Alamgir who now resides in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, however, has landed in a financial mess because he does not have any health insurance to cover for the transplant costs. In March 2011, the New York Karachi Club held a benefit show for Alamgir. The singer is still going through dialysis and hopes to travel to Pakistan some time this year with the hope of finding a donor.
