Sindh Labour Minister Ameer Nawab Khan on Thursday said that Thatta and Jamshoro districts are being declared child labour-free zones while Mirpurkhas and Qambar will also be soon declared free from child labour.
He was speaking as the chief guest at a seminar organised under the auspices the Employers’ Federation of Pakistan (EFP). Calling for undertaking concerted efforts for tackling the problem of child labour, Khan was of the view that there is a need to make such endeavours meaningful and it was owing to the efforts of his department that Sukkur has been declared as child labour-free zone; whereas, Thatta and Jamshoro are also being made child labour free areas.
On the occasion, EFP vice-president and ILO director also expressed their views. The students of Karachi University’s Mass Communication Department also presented a documentary on child labour, which was greatly appreciated by the participants of the seminar.
