Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Sindh is planning a protest against President Asif Ali Zardari for the speech he delivered in Naudero on the birth anniversary celebrations of slain Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairperson Benazir Bhutto. A wave of acrimony has surfaced between the leaderships of the PPP and PML-N, which was sparked by PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif’s hard -hitting speech during the election campaign in Azad Kashmir. On the eve of birthday of slain PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto, President Zardari hit back at Nawaz Sharif, calling him a cleric and of the same ilk as Mullah Omar.
Although PML-N lacks a formal structure in Sindh, the party’s many factions have been brought together on this one-point agenda of an anti-Zardari protest. Source told Pakistan Today that because of the absence of any prominent leadership in PML-N’s Sindh party, all leaders have personally started to gear up to protest against President Zardari.
“We have the right to protest against President Zardari’s speech. As president of the country, he should not have used such language. Sindh is not the personal property of anyone, how can he issue threats to a popular leader of a party. How can he say that ‘were he to say to the people of Lyari that Nawaz Shairf cannot visit Sindh, he won’t be able to’,” PML-N’s central leader  Sorath Thebo told Pakistan Today.
Thebo said that she was not in Karachi when President Zardari delivered his speech in Naudero. “Let us see what the party decided regarding the protest. Whatever line of action is taken will be announced later,” she added.
