Pakistan has put in strenuous efforts for peace: German MP

Pakistan has put in strenuous efforts for peace and stability in this region, but a lot more can be done in this respect, said German Member of Parliament (MP) Rainer Arnold at a reception recently hosted in his honour by German Consul General Dr Christian Brecht at the chancery in Karachi.
Arnold was leading a five-member delegation of the Social Democratic Party to Pakistan. The MPs said that they were on a fact-finding mission to understand Pakistan better.
The German parliamentarian said that Pakistan is an important country in the region with a lot of responsibility as far as maintaining peace and stability in the region is concerned.
He added that Germany was helping Pakistan in this respect and had helped train 330 army personnel in the anti-terrorism warfare.
Arnold also pointed out that for peace to prevail in this region, Pakistan needs to establish better relations with India so that both countries could mutually benefit from each other.
He added that he was glad to learn that the majority of Pakistani people are politically conscious and want peace and stability.
Sindh Assembly Speaker Nisar Khuhro, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said that Germany and Pakistan could greatly benefit from each other and such visits help both countries to understand each other’s viewpoint.
The five-member delegation comprised MPs Rainer Arnold, Mrs Karin Evers Meyer, Walter Kolbow, Johannes Andreas Pflug and committee secretary Mrs Ulrike Fischer.
