Over Rs 508m handed to media in ads: Memon

The Sindh Information Department has paid over Rs 508 million to the print and electronic media for advertisements during the past two years, Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said in the Sindh Assembly on Wednesday. Memon said during the question hour that the Information Department owes no dues to the electronic media, whereas the outstanding dues of the print media are calculated to around Rs 108.79 million, which would be paid soon. He said that a fair, transparent and impartial policy had been adopted regarding distribution of government advertisements to the print and electronic media.
The minister said that the Archives Department has preserved important documents and collections. Besides, he added, important documents of the Sindh Assembly proceedings that had been taken away by the Punjab Assembly were also retrieved and preserved by the Archives Department. According to him, the Archives Department has sought help from the British Library and other important libraries in this regard. Rare maps since 1873 have been preserved and the department has record of every district of the province, he added.
He said that the disabled quota is being strictly followed at the Information Department regarding appointments, and that all matters are decided on merit.
