5 militants killed as checkpost attacked near Peshawar

Police repulsed an attack on a check post in Sarband area of Peshawar, killing five militants, while two personnel of Khasadar Force embraced martyrdom and another was wounded in an improvise explosive devise (IED) blast at Jamrud in Khyber Agency. According to the police, around 65 armed militants attacked the Manzoor Hussain Check Post, located along the Bara tehsil of Khyber Agency, on Wednesday at around 1:30 am. The personnel present at the check post retaliated with full force which triggered an hour-long encounter. Five of the attackers were killed in the gun battle whereas police suffered no casualty. However, the AFP quoted senior police official Mohammad Ijaz, as saying that two policemen were also injured.
The remaining militants were forced to escape, leaving behind the dead bodies of their accomplices and a huge quantity of sophisticated weapons. The identity of the dead militants is yet to be ascertained but it is believed that they were associated to the outlawed Lashkar-e-Islam, headed by Mangal Bagh. The militant outfit is involved in deadly attacks on police force in Sarband area during the last couple of years.
And in Jamrud, the Khasadar Force lost two men in an IED explosion at the Takhta Beg Road. The blast occurred when Naib Sobedar Hairan Shah along with two other colleagues entered a temporary check post. Shah was killed on the spot while others were shifted to hospital in a critical condition where one of them also died of his wounds. Although, no person or group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack, the officials say the terror outfit Lashkar Islam is behind the cowardly act.
