Hearing the missing persons’ case on Tuesday, the Supreme Court stated that the democratic government should explain under what law Pakistani nationals were handed over to other countries.
Heading a two-member Supreme Court bench, Justice Javed Iqbal expressed dissatisfaction with the Foreign Office (FO)’s report and observed that it seemed as if the FO had done nothing to recover Pakistanis imprisoned in foreign jails. The report submitted to the court by the FO stated that 103 Pakistanis were imprisoned in Afghanistan, out of which only eight had been repatriated to date because due to shortage of funds, the FO was facing difficulties in bringing the Pakistanis back home.
Justice Iqbal said the court would decide the issue on the next date of hearing and adjourned further proceedings till June 27.
