Qaim’s son-in-law sent packing

Iqbal Durrani, the son-in-law of Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, has been sent on leave and Rizwan Memon appointed as the new secretary of the Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD) in his place.
Memon was serving as the Population Department secretary. Syed Mumtaz Shah has been appointed as the new secretary of Population Department.
He was serving as the Information Department secretary before his new assignment. Syed Safdar Hussain Shah has replaced Shah as the new secretary of Information Department. He had been serving as the Information Department Director General for a long time.
According to official sources, President Asif Ali Zardari was not satisfied with the performance of Sindh’s bureaucracy and therefore Durrani was sent on leave as he was leading on of the most important departments of the province responsible for overall administration.
Sources said that Durrani was also held responsible for recommending some Irrigation Department officers for promotion and they were among over 400 officers of the provincial government who were approved for promotion to the next grade by the chief minister.
“The promoted irrigation officers were facing inquiries into the breaches of canals and Indus River embankments during last year’s flood and under the rules no officer can be promoted while facing any inquiry.”
