Police register case against girl’s father, brother

Hanjerwal Police registered a case of the couple’s murder against four men including the father and brother of the deceased girl on the complaint of her husband’s father on Wednesday. According to police, a case was registered against deceased girl Nageena’s father Maalik Khan, brother Waqar Khan and two others on the complaint of deceased Nadeem’s father Ghulam Akbar. Hanjerwal Assisstant Superintendent of Police Shaista Rehman told Pakistan Today that a first information report (FIR) was filed but no case has been registered so far. She said the version of suspected party would only come to light once the police arrested them. She hoped that suspects would be captured soon.
Nageena and Nadeem eloped in January and were brought back to Waqas’ house after reconciliation, where they were murdered. Nadeem’s family claimed that Nageena’s brothers were trying to kill the couple ever since they had contracted marriage. By asking Nageena and Nadeem to move to Waqas’s house, presented to them as dowry, the brothers got a chance to take revenge and hence they killed the couple, said Nageena’s family. This was the fourth incident of honour killing in Saddar Division since June 09.
