Following the sheer demand by the PML-N to arrest the perpetrators behind the heinous killing of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, the ruling PPP Tuesday failed to pass an unanimous resolution in the National Assembly to pay tribute to their leader on her 58th birthday.
Surprisingly, the National Assembly and the Senate also failed to hold a fateha for the assassinated leader.
According to the PPP sources, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah, who is also the party chief whip, on a point of order requested Speaker Fehmida Mirza that rich tributes must be paid to the services and sacrifices of the martyred leader who was undoubtedly an international leader. To which, she responded positively. Khursheed started discussion so that a resolution could be tabled on the issue but his attempt proved in vain as the PML-N had other idea to spoil the party on the auspicious day.
The PML-N legislators asked the speaker to include clause in the resolution on arresting the persons behind the assassination along with a timeframe for the purpose. Sources say all the parties were in favour of a resolution to pay homage to Benazir but Khursheed, after serious reservations and demands from the PML-N, dropped the idea and decided to become a silent spectator. The PPP sources said if unanimous resolution had not been passed, it would have tantamount to an insult to the government, resulting in deferment of the idea.
Why was the PPP led by Asif Zardari hesitant in adopting a resolution which called for uncovering the murder of Benazir Bhutto.
