The National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP) N-5 Central on Tuesday started a special campaign to check whether backlights of all vehicles were uncovered and working properly so as to ensure night-time safety on highways.
On the directives of NH&MP N-5 Central Deputy Inspector General Fateh Sher Joyia, a comprehensive campaign was undertaken to check tail lights of vehicles and remove iron grills covering the backlights of heavy transport vehicles (HTVs).
The DIG, in a meeting, said that vehicles without tail lights or with poor visibility of tail lights could cause accidents. He asked the official concerned to ensure enforcement of properly working backlights and provide briefing to drivers against the use of iron grills that hamper visibility.
The Mobile Education Unit N-5 Central officers hence visited different bus and heavy transport terminals to brief and educate the drivers about the importance of tail lights while traveling at night and the dire consequences of having improper tail lights or backlights.
