Land grabbers assaulted the manager of Journalists Housing Colony and a security guard and threatened them of dire consequences in Harbanspura police precincts on Tuesday. The manager, Aqeel, and security guard Fida Hussain were on their way to the Lahore Press Club (LPC) from the Journalists Housing Colony when six armed persons intercepted them and rounded them up.
The land grabbers also looted Rs 67,000 the men were carrying. LPC President Sarmad Bashir, vice president Zahid Abid, General Secretary Azam Chaudary and members of governing body condemned the brutal incident. Bashir said on one hand the Punjab chief minister had ordered a crackdown against land grabbers, while on the other, activists and leaders of the PML-N were busy in grabbing land of Journalists Housing Colony.
Office bearers of the Lahore Press Club said the Baghbanpura DSP and SHO Rana Akmal were also patronising the land grabbers.
