The International Monetary Fund (IMF) will hold a formal review of Pakistan’s economy to decide whether or not to release the next tranche of $1.7 billion in July, a senior official of the Finance Ministry told Pakistan Today on Tuesday.
The official, who asked not to be named, said the government had already fulfilled 90 percent of the IMF’s demands relating to the implementation of the Reformed General Sales Tax (RGST) and power sector reforms. “IMF is satisfied with the progress and their mission will hold formal review in July to decide on the release of next tranche of $1.7 billion,” he said.
He said the dates of the IMF mission were not finalised yet but it would be after July 10, when the government compiled complete economic data for the current fiscal year.
