Heartless leaders

In the budget of 2011-12, Rs 2.60 billion are allocated for the president and prime minister for foreign tours. In a country where 72 million Pakistanis are living below the poverty line, what justification president and prime minister have to spend such a huge amount of tax-payers’ money on foreign tours which are worthless and useless.

With this much money, 20 hospitals of 10 beds and 200 primary schools can be built in the under developed rural areas of the country.

Pakistan is borrowing Rs 800 billion to meet its budget deficit. The country will never get rid of foreign debt if our top leaders will not change their way of life.

It is a fact that the educated middle class does not consider the present politicians worth their votes. As long as the present system of election and qualification of candidates contesting the election is in place, there is no hope of educated middle class to have political power, particularly in Punjab.

The hold on political power by feudals, Sardars, Nawabs and industrialist will never provide an opportunity to 24 million children to attend the school. There is a yearning for genuine change in Pakistan, a desire to see a change of system not just a change of faces.
