The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP)-led Sindh government and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) strongly criticised leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Monday, with Sindh Information and Archives Minister Sharjeel Memon saying PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif were “PhDs in lying”.
Memon told reporters at a press conference that the Sharifs did not accept their deal with former president General Pervez Musharraf, or confess to taking money from the Inter-Services Intelligence and Osama bin Laden. He said they wanted a 1990-like situation in the country.
He said the “leaders of GT Road” were using abusive language against the PPP leadership. “All political parties of the country are agreed on reconciliation, but Nawaz Sharif does not want it,” said Sharjeel. MQM National Assembly Member Hyder Abbas Rizvi said Nawaz was responsible for the killings of thousands of MQM workers. Responding to Nawaz’s speech in Kashmir, he said the PML-N chief was always talking about the May 12 incident but forgetting June 19, 1992, when an operation was launched in Karachi that killed thousands of MQM workers.
