Re-structuring of May 2, journalist murder probe commissions approved

Law ministry’s summary regarding re-structuring of the commissions to probe the recent issues of American incursion into Abbottabad and the murder of journalist Saleem Shehzad has been approved by Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani.
Sources have said that after the approval of Chief Justice of Pakistan, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, a 4-member commission under the chair of senior Judge of Supreme Court, Justice Javed Iqbal had been recommended to probe the Abbottabad issue; while other members include Lt Gen (Retd) Nadeem Ahmad, Jehangir Ashraf Qazi and Abbas Khan. Secretary Cabinet Division would be commission’s secretary. Justice Fakhruddin Ibrahim Jee had earlier expressed his regrets to join the commission, and as such he has not been included.
Meanwhile, the ministry has also formed another 5-member commission headed by Supreme Court Judge Justice Saqib Nisar to probe the murder of journalist Saleem Shehzad. Other members are Islamabad IG, Punjab IG, Federal Shariah Court CJ and Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) president.
The heads of both re-structured commissions would also be empowered to summon the meeting of their respective commissions at their discretion.
