The government of Sindh has been requested to allocate Rs500,000 to the Underground Coal Gasification and Purification Project because the project is facing difficulty meeting day to day technical and administrative requirements. The two and half year project started in July 2010 and has been on schedule so far completing pre-fabricated residential complexes and 35 bore holes.
In addition to that, necessary machinery and technical manpower have been procured, gasifier has been designed and constructed, and design parameters for piping and purification plant have been completed. Secretary Coal and Energy Development, Government of Sindh Ajaz Ali Khan wrote a letter to Secretary Finance Department Government of Sindh Naveed Kamran Baloch to issue the necessary funds so that the project can be completed on time.
Aijaz Ali Khan said that reference had been made to an earlier letter by Member Planning Commission Dr. Samar Mubarakmand which was sent on 30 May, 2011 and also requested that an amount of Rs500,000 to be deposited in the nearest bank in Islamkot.
The Coal and Energy Development Department is of the view that this is a very important project of national interest and needs to be completed on time, he said, adding that it is in the best interest of the Province of Sindh and the country to get this project completed in time. It is pertinent to mention that the Government of Sindh is executing the project under the guidance of Dr. Samar Mubarakmand. The main objective of the project is to produce and install syngas purification facility, complete a pilot study of 100MWs in next 15 months and in the case of a positive result initiate a project for 1000MW.

  1. Being a patriotic pakistani, I would request the local and federal governament to immediately allocate funds for thar coal project as this is only way left to get rid of energy crissis and put packistan back to track. Keeping in view the extrem importance of this project Governament can also ask for donations from the nation and I am sure each and every pakistani would share/donate to best extent possible.__We also need to urge China " the only reliable friend of pakistan" to provide full support and invest in this project to bring this nation out of DARKNESS.
