Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, ambassador for polio eradication and President Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday donated blood in the nation-wide campaign, marking the 58th birth anniversary of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed.
In a special ceremony held at the Presidency, Aseefa joined PPP workers in a campaign to donate blood to those injured in the war against terrorism. The drive is coincided with the late party leader Benazir Bhutto’s birthday celebrations to honour her memories.
The donated blood is meant for soldiers, police and members of law-enforcing fighting against militants, said a statement issued here. It said, “President Asif Ali Zardari has urged all party workers and leaders to donate blood today, as before, for all those who have shed their blood fighting against the militants.”
Faryal Talpur, MNA, Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan, Minister for Information & Broadcasting, BISP Chairperson Farzana Raja and Shahnaz Wazir Ali were also present on the occasion.
The president, on the other hand, donated blood at a special ceremony held in Naudero where, president’s daughter Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari and Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah were also present. June 21 of every year is celebrated by the public in general and PPP workers in particular to reiterate their commitment to the values and principles for which Benazir Bhutto struggled for her entire life and finally laid down her life.
The president has also reiterated his commitment that PPP would continue to work for strengthening of democracy and extricating the downtrodden people from shackles of poverty and degradation. Blood donation camps were set up across the country where thousands of PPP workers turned up to donate blood. The blood will be sent to blood bank of armed forces institute of blood transfusion.
